An information event on the topic of small-scale renewable energy production was held

At the initiative and organization of the Ministry of Energy, an informative event was held for representatives of local companies operating in the field of renewable energy on the topic of supporting small-scale green energy production, in other words, active consumers.

The main purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the opportunities for  individuals and legal entities to build their own individual renewable energy systems and transfer the excess energy they produce to the grid.

Javid Abdullayev, Director of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), emphasized the economic, social and environmental importance of the green energy transition and said that the active consumer model will contribute to the development of the use of renewable energy in Azerbaijan. It was noted that this mechanism will expand the participation of citizens and entrepreneurs in the green energy production in our country, allowing to reduce energy costs in the long term.

Later, specialists of AREA and Azerishig OJSC made presentations on the requirements of legislation on the application of the mechanism for supporting active consumers, as well as technical aspects. The presentations provided detailed information on the installation of solar panels, wind turbines and other green energy facilities, transmission of excess energy produced to the grid, tariffs, net metering.

In the continuation of the event, participants' questions on the topic were answered, discussions were held and practical experiences were shared.

At the end, the representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nigar Ismayilova spoke about the projects supported by JICA in Azerbaijan. It was noted that the current event was organized within the JICA small grant project.
