Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov held an online meeting with Kenyan Energy and Petroleum Minister James Opiyo Wandayi.
At the meeting, it was noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Kenya within the framework of the platform for developing relations with the countries of the Global South and the Non-Aligned Movement are dynamic. It was emphasized that there is a great potential for bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. In this context, Azerbaijan's rich experience in the oil and gas industry, its role in ensuring energy security, large-scale projects covering the production and export of renewable energy, as well as expanding the geographical reach of cooperation to African countries were discussed. Azerbaijan and Kenya discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), strengthening the energy network, geothermal and renewable energy.
A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector was signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of the Republic of Kenya. It was noted that the Memorandum of Understanding defines a strategic roadmap for broad and multilateral cooperation based on mutual interests and potential opportunities in the energy sector of the two countries. The document covers the oil and gas sectors, including LNG, electricity, and renewable energy, as well as cooperation in promoting joint investments, improving energy networks, and ensuring energy security. According to the memorandum, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya, as well as SOCAR and Kenyan oil and gas companies, will cooperate in potential areas. It is envisaged to establish a Joint Working Group to address the issues arising from the memorandum.
