The Black Sea Energy project, which aims to lay an undersea cable for exporting green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe, has significant potential to enhance Europe's energy security, Nicolaos Theodossiou, Chairman of SDSN Black Sea and a representative of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, told Report.
"This project holds strategic importance because dependence on a single energy source or supplier country carries serious risks. The war in Ukraine has clearly demonstrated this—everyone has suffered. That is why we need alternative solutions, and the Black Sea Energy project could be one of the most reliable options," he noted.
According to him, Europe's energy security is a crucial issue that must be approached comprehensively.
"This is no longer just a local problem but a global one. We need to find ways to supply energy from anywhere—from any place where there is sun, wind, geothermal energy, or any other energy source. The global energy system is evolving," he added.
