Chinese companies to develop offshore wind energy projects in Azerbaijan, Renewables.az informs.

In this framework, The Ministry of Energy and China Energy Overseas Investment Co. Ltd. signed an Executive Agreement on the assessment, development and implementation of an offshore wind energy project in Azerbaijan. According to the agreement, cooperation will be carried out to assess the potential of wind energy in the Caspian Sea, planning and construction of projects in this area.  Within this framework, cooperation is envisaged on the evaluation, development, design, financing, engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance of an offshore wind plant with a minimum capacity of 2GW on a phased basis.

Between the Ministry of Energy, SOCAR Green LLC, China Datang Overseas Investment Co. Ltd and PowerChina Resources Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of an offshore wind energy project with a capacity of 2GW in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Within the Memorandum, cooperation will be carried out on the assessment of investment opportunities and the establishment of appropriate technical and legal support mechanisms. A Steering Committee and a Working Group will be established to develop the project, as well as experts in commercial, legal and technical fields. The Ministry of Energy will provide support in obtaining appropriate permits, allocating marine territories and other necessary processes.
