US renewable energy developer energyRe unveiled a deal allowing Google to invest in and purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from over 600 MW of new solar and solar-plus-storage projects.
energyRe is developing these projects in South Carolina.
This is the second agreement that energyRe signs with Alphabet Inc’s search engine, bringing the total clean energy capacity the companies will add to the grid to over 1 GWac.
The pact contributes to Google’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030.
"Strengthening the grid by deploying more reliable and clean energy is crucial for supporting the digital infrastructure that businesses and individuals depend on," said Amanda Peterson Corio, Head of Data Center Energy at Google. "Our collaboration with energyRe will help power our data centres and the broader economic growth of South Carolina," she added.
