India has commissioned 23.1 GW of utility-scale and rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in 2024 and is expected to add 28.6 GW more in 2025, JMK Research & Analytics estimates.
During the past year, 18.5 GW of utility-scale solar parks and close to 4.6 GW of rooftop arrays were brought online in India. According to JMK Research & Analytics' Annual India Solar Report Card for 2024, the state of Rajasthan was the top contributor to the annual solar deployments, accounting for 7.5 GW of the total added, followed by Gujarat with 5.1 GW and Tamil Nadu with 1.4 GW.
At the end of 2024, a total of 79.2 GW of utility-scale solar parks were generating electricity in India and the country had an additional 71.8 GW of projects in the pipeline following completed auctions. Roughly 25 GW of the cumulative installed utility-scale PV capacity is located in Rajasthan.
In 2025, India is projected to put on stream 22.8 GW of utility-scale solar and 5.8 GW of rooftop capacity, JMK Research said.
In terms of production, the statistics show that India-based Waaree Group, as well as JinkoSolar Holding and Longi Solar of China were the largest PV module suppliers in India in 2024. Adani, First Solar and Waaree headed the ranking for module exports.
