Within the cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and the International Atomic Energy Agency, a four-day seminar is being held covering the duties and responsibilities of the Nuclear Energy Program Executive Organization (NEPIO).
On the first day of the event, the Specialists of the International Atomic Energy Agency provided information on the phased approach to the implementation of the new nuclear energy program, technologies for small modular reactors and their infrastructure issues. The seminar also reviewed the implementation of Türkiye’s first nuclear power plant project under the "Build-Own-Operate" scheme and Hungary's experience in assessing the feasibility of new nuclear energy initiatives.
In the upcoming days, discussions will focus on the development of the feasibility studies for nuclear energy projects,specific features of the field, safety requirements, protection rules and protective measures, legal and regulatory framework for nuclear power plants, Türkiye's experience in preparing regulatory legal acts, licensing process, distribution of roles and responsibilities for the implementation of nuclear power plants, nuclear infrastructure assessments, integrated nuclear infrastructure and experience gained in this area, Human Resource management in the nuclear field.
Along with the Ministry of Energy, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerenergy OJSC and other relevant agencies participate in the seminar.
It should be noted that on 13 November 2024 within the COP29, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Atomic Energy Agency on cooperation in the field of energy planning in the context of the Paris Agreement was signed.
