Another major renewable energy project is set to launch in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The regional akimat has signed a memorandum for the construction of 65 wind turbines with a total capacity of 500 MW in the Osakarov district, Kazinform reports.
This marks the second wind energy project in the district to attract foreign investment. The new wind farm will be located in the village of Saryozek.
"Building such facilities is one of the key strategic initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan in the country’s path toward carbon neutrality. This project holds great significance for our region," said Yermaganbet Bulekpayev, Akim of the Karaganda region.
The world’s leading wind turbine manufacturer, China Energy Overseas Investment Co. Ltd., has already conducted a preliminary assessment of the site. According to Lin Xiaodan, Chairman of China Energy Overseas Investment, specialists have been measuring wind speeds and preparing a feasibility study.
“A lot of work has been done since our last meeting, and we have made progress in preparing for the project,” Lin Xiaodan stated. “Our analysis confirms that wind conditions in the area meet project requirements. We are confident in its positive prospects.”
The Osakarov district was selected for its consistently strong wind conditions, particularly in the Osakarovka–Saryozek–Telmana zone.
Currently, another investment company is operating a 150 MW wind power project in the same area. Six turbines have already been installed, with a seventh on the way. In total, 21 turbines will be set up, creating 20 new jobs.
"We are actively working to attract investors to the district," said Ruslan Nurmukhanbetov, Akim of Osakarov district. "Negotiations are underway for a third wind farm with a 500 MW capacity. The combined implementation of these three projects will not only strengthen the district’s position in renewable energy but also increase tax revenues and create new jobs."
