The active construction phase of the "Shafag" Solar Power Plant will soon begin.

According to Renewables.az, citing the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov made this statement during his speech at the 7th Meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, held in London.

In his speech, Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted that this project is a leading example of our cooperation with bp in the field of green energy and decarbonization of the oil and gas industry.

At the meeting, which was represented by about 30 government agencies of Azerbaijan, the work done in more than 20 areas, important issues were considered and presentations on development prospects were made. It was agreed to cooperate in the direction of energy transition in areas such as renewable energy, grid development, energy efficiency, emission reduction and transition to a liberal electricity market, including the development of offshore wind, solar energy and hydrogen infrastructure.

The necessity of accelerating the processes related to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the development of bilateral economic relations was emphasized.
The Protocol on the Outcomes of the Seventh Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on economic cooperation was signed. It was decided to hold the 8th meeting of the commission in 2026 in Baku.
