Dagestan is currently building two solar power plants and one wind farm as part of the National Project "New Nuclear and Energy Technologies." These facilities are set to be commissioned between 2025 and 2026, according to the official website of Russia’s National Projects, citing the administration of the republic’s head.
Construction of the Novolakskaya wind farm began in October last year. By 2025, 61 wind turbines with a total capacity of 152.5 MW will be operational, followed by an additional 59 turbines with a combined capacity of 147.5 MW in 2026.
In the same month, work started on what will become Russia’s largest solar power plant, located in the Derbent district. With a capacity of 100 MW, the plant will span 300 hectares, featuring nearly 190,000 solar panels and over 800 kilometers of underground cabling. It is scheduled to come online next year. A second solar power plant, with a capacity of 60 MW, is under construction in the Nogai district. Covering 155 hectares, it is expected to be completed later this year.
"The implementation of these three projects will create around 120 permanent jobs in Dagestan, in addition to 600 positions during the construction phase. Dagestan is among Russia’s most promising regions for renewable energy development, boasting substantial solar, wind, and hydro resources. The Ministry of Energy of Dagestan has also established a project office that operates as a one-stop shop to support investors, ensuring assistance at all levels—from land allocation for RES facilities to technological connections and access to existing incentives," said Marat Shikhaliyev, Minister of Energy and Tariffs of Dagestan.
