Türkiye's Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar has confirmed the government's plans to commission the first reactor of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in 2025, Report informs via CNN Turk TV.
"We aim to launch the first reactor of Akkuyu NPP this year. Even if it's just in test mode, we want to start electricity generation. Starting electricity generation in the first reactor is crucial. I hope this will be a historic moment for Türkiye," Bayraktar stated.
Bayraktar also highlighted the delays in the project due to equipment issues caused by Germany's Siemens company. "The problem at Akkuyu is being addressed with Chinese equipment, but it has cost us about a year and a half. We are now dealing with the repercussions," he noted.
Akkuyu NPP, Türkiye's first nuclear power plant, is being constructed by Russia's Rosatom State Corporation. The project includes four power units, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW.
