French renewable power producer Voltalia SA has been awarded a new 139-MW solar project in Menzel Habib, Tunisia, the company said.
This is Voltalia’s second project win in Tunisia, following the Sagdoud solar project awarded in May. The Menzel Habib project, secured as part of Tunisia’s AO-01-2022 call for tenders, will be located in the Gabes region in the southeast of the country.
The solar farm will produce enough electricity to supply more than 620,000 people annually and prevent the emission of 360,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Voltalia plans to start construction at the end of 2025, and commission the plant in 2027. Its output will be sold under a 25-year electricity sales contract.
The Menzel Habib project is located 125 kilometres (77.7 miles) from the Sagdoud solar farm, allowing for shared construction, transport, and maintenance costs, Voltalia said.
