Representatives from the water and energy sectors of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan convened in Tashkent to discuss the ambitious Kambarata HPP-1 project, according to the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.
The meeting reviewed a draft Road Map outlining the stages of securing financing and the implementation mechanism for the construction of the Kambarata Hydropower Plant-1.
Sungat Yesimkhanov, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy, highlighted that the 1860 MW hydropower plant on the Naryn River is set to become one of the largest in Central Asia. The project is expected to strengthen good-neighborly relations among the countries of the region while contributing to energy development.
Currently, with technical assistance from the World Bank, work is underway to complete a feasibility study. This includes evaluating the technical, economic, financial, environmental, and social aspects of the project, alongside other key studies required for its implementation.
