The 5.3 MW Eyvazli Hydropower Plant (HPP) is under construction on the Bargushad River in Azerbaijan's Gubadli district.
Renewables.Az reports, citing Azerenerji OJSC, that this will be the first hydropower plant ever built in the district.
To ensure a sustainable water supply for the plant, a water intake structure has been constructed on the Bargushad River in compliance with environmental standards. Despite challenging terrain conditions, a 5.3-kilometer diversion pipeline has been laid, and construction of the powerhouse has been completed.
Installation of turbines and generators, as well as 35 kV and 10 kV indoor switchgear, is currently underway. The Eyvazli HPP will be equipped with two Francis-type turbines, and construction and installation works are expected to be completed in the near future.
The plant will be connected to Azerbaijan's national power grid through the 110 kV Gubadli substation, which was built and commissioned by Azerenerji in 2021.
Once the Eyvazli HPP is commissioned, Gubadli will join the districts producing green hydropower in Azerbaijan's liberated territories.
The plant is expected to generate 15.6 million kWh of clean electricity annually, save 3.5 million cubic meters of natural gas, and prevent the emission of 6,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year.
