Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has signed a resolution approving the conclusion of an agreement for the construction of a 500 MW wind power plant in the Karaganda region between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Karaganda Wind Power LLP, a joint Kazakh-Chinese venture.
On the sidelines of the regional environmental summit, an investment agreement for the construction of the 500 MW wind farm was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Karaganda Wind Power.
The document was signed by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov and Chairman of Karaganda Wind Power LLP Shao Yuebo.
The 500 MW wind power project in the Karaganda region is being implemented under an intergovernmental agreement and forms part of Kazakhstan’s broader program to expand renewable energy capacity.
Total investment in the project is estimated at US$645 million. The wind farm is expected to generate up to 1.6 billion kWh of green electricity annually.
The project will also deliver significant environmental benefits, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.3 million tonnes per year.
It is aimed at strengthening the country’s energy security, advancing the green economy, and attracting foreign investment into Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
