Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Brendan Hanrahan, Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (EUR) of the U.S. Department of State, according to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, the sides talked about the strategic importance of the Washington meeting held on 8 August between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump, which ensures the growth of bilateral and regional relations, as well as energy cooperation to a new stage. In this regard, discussions were held on cooperation priorities, such as expanding energy investments and infrastructure for regional connections. The issues arising from the creation of a Strategic Working Group for the preparation of the Charter of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States were considered.
The important role of the United States in the implementation of strategically important energy security projects in Azerbaijan was emphasized and the importance of cooperation with the United States in the sustainability of our country's energy supply to Europe was emphasized. Expansion of cooperation with the long-term partner of our country in the oil and gas sector ExxonMobil with new onshore projects, as well as the current state and prospects of cooperation in the field of trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil and petroleum products to the United States through SOCAR Trading were considered. Cooperation opportunities on projects of hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors, in particular green energy corridors, which will connect Azerbaijan and Türkiye and Europe through Nakhchivan, Armenia, The Black Sea and Georgia, and provide Azerbaijan-Central Asia energy links through the Caspian Sea, were evaluated. U.S. companies and investors were invited to participate in potential projects.
