Today, 26 January 2026, the world marks International Clean Energy Day for the third time.

Renewables.az recalls that International Clean Energy Day was first observed on 26 January 2024. The main purpose of the day is to highlight the role of renewable and environmentally clean energy sources in global energy systems.

It should be noted that on 25 August 2023, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution proclaiming 26 January—the founding date of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) — as International Clean Energy Day.

According to the information, IRENA supports the UN resolution designating 26 January as International Clean Energy Day and considers it a significant step toward achieving the global energy transition. By selecting this date, the 193 Member States of the UN General Assembly reaffirm their recognition of IRENA’s leading role in accelerating the transition to a renewable energy-based global energy system.

The establishment of a dedicated day focused on clean energy is expected to contribute to accelerating the energy transition and advancing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
