A strategic decarbonization project for Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) has been launched with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

ADB will provide technical support to strengthen ADY's capacity in waste monitoring and reporting, identify available technologies to accelerate decarbonization, and explore renewable energy sources.

ADY is currently the first state railway company in the Caucasus and Central Asia to implement a comprehensive decarbonization program with ADB.

Cindy Cisneros-Tiangco, Director of Emerging Areas at the Energy Sector Office of the ADB, told journalists that the technical assistance focuses on several key outcomes aligned with ADY’s vision of the “railway company of the future.” She said: “We will consider innovative solutions not only in terms of how the railway operates, but also in terms of how it can use its assets to generate renewable energy and channel it to its own needs.”
