During the 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, candidate countries were nominated for the presidency and four vice-presidential posts of the Assembly’s 17th session.
According to the Ministry of Energy, in line with the principles of geographical representation and rotation, the Republic of Korea’s candidacy was approved for the presidency of the Assembly’s 17th session from the Asia and Pacific regional group.
The Assembly’s vice-presidents are formed from one member representing each of the remaining four regional groups. The candidacies submitted for the vice-presidential positions include Azerbaijan from the Europe and Others regional group, the Comoros from the African regional group, the Kingdom of Tonga from the Asia and Pacific regional group, and Grenada from the Latin America and Caribbean regional group.
The 17th session of the IRENA Assembly will be held in 2027.
