The Goto Floating Wind Farm consortium has begun commercial operation of the Goto offshore wind farm.
The company, which is backed by several shareholders including Toda, Eneos and Kanai Electric, said the facility is Japan’s first commercial floating offshore wind project certified under the Marine Renewable Energy Sea-Area Utilization Act.
It added that the wind farm uses a hybrid spar-type floater with a steel upper section and concrete lower section designed and built by Toda Corporation.
Many local companies participated in the construction of the wind farm.
Local firms are also expected to support operations and maintenance, with electricity supplied preferentially to local retail providers.
Goto aims to promote renewable energy through long-term operation of the wind farm and help improve the quality of life for local communities, the companies stated.
