Azerbaijan, PowerChina review renewable energy projects

Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Yang Tianfu, President of PowerChina Resources Limited, according to the Ministry.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the successfully developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the PowerChina Group in the field of renewable energy. It was noted that the company has been actively involved in the implementation of green energy projects in Azerbaijan. It was highlighted that Huadong Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of PowerChina, served as the general contractor for the 240 MW Khizi–Absheron Wind Power Plant project and is currently acting as the general contractor for Masdar’s 200 MW Absheron Wind Power Plant project.

The parties exchanged views on the 160 MW solar power plant project being developed with PowerChina Resources Limited, as well as the offshore wind energy project in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The progress achieved in the implementation of the 160 MW solar power plant project was reviewed. It was emphasized that the projects implemented by PowerChina Resources Limited are among the priority projects of the Ministry of Energy. The discussion also covered the secure integration of renewable energy sources into the electricity grid, the development of electricity transmission infrastructure, and the prospects for the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). It was noted that the integration of new generation capacities into the power system will be carried out taking into account the findings of the ongoing feasibility study on the development of the electricity grid. In this context, ensuring the stability and reliability of the power system during project implementation was identified as one of the key priorities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their cooperation towards the successful implementation of the projects and to intensify technical-level consultations.
