Azerbaijan represented at the 6th Meeting of the SCO Energy Ministers

Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Minister of Energy Kamal Abbasov at the 6th Meeting of the Energy Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), held in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic.

During his address, he emphasized the importance of energy security, resilience, the deployment of clean energy technologies, and the strengthening of international cooperation against the backdrop of ongoing transformations in the global energy system. He noted that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to developing its relations with the SCO as a Dialogue Partner. It was stated that Azerbaijan contributes to enhancing regional energy connectivity as a reliable energy partner and a key transit hub. In this context, particular attention was drawn to the country's plans to develop 8 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, as well as to implement various green energy corridor and interconnector projects.

The strategic importance of the Central Asia–Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project was highlighted, and support was expressed for the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to this initiative. It was noted that the project will strengthen energy connectivity among Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Türkiye, and China, while creating additional opportunities for electricity transmission along the Middle Corridor, linking Europe and Asia.

It was further underlined that Azerbaijan remains committed to contributing to constructive dialogue and the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the SCO platform.
