Azerbaijan's Azerenerji is completing the first phase of the construction of the Zangazur power transmission line, which will connect the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to the country's main power grid and become part of the international Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan-Türkiye-Europe energy corridor.
As part of the project, a 330 kV double-circuit power line with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a length of 74 kilometers has been constructed along the section from Jabrayil to Aghband.
A total of 296 pylons, each standing up to 45 meters high and weighing over 30 tons, have been installed. Despite challenging climatic conditions, 97% of the work has been completed ahead of schedule, the company noted.
The next stage envisages the construction of the Ordubad-Nakhchivan line (100 kilometers), the section through the Zangazur corridor (44 kilometers), and the Nakhchivan-Türkiye line (230 kilometers).
The project holds strategic significance for fully integrating Nakhchivan into the national power grid, eliminating reliance on external frequency regulation, accessing European markets, and transmitting green energy. It represents one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan's history.
