Jointly chaired by the Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Fuad Najafli, a meeting dedicated to the development of the electric power system within the framework of the implementation of the State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of Nakhchivan for 2023-2027 was held.
At the meeting with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Energy, AREA, AERA, Azerenergy OJSC, Azerishig OJSC, Nakhchivan Energy LLC, Nakhchivan Regional Energy Supply and Sales Department, as well as Nobel Energy company, the current situation and planned projects in the energy field of Nakhchivan were discussed. In this context, the measures carried out during the year on power plants, substations, power transmission lines, as well as on the Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)-Türkiye-Europe Energy Hub were considered.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on projects in the field of renewable energy sources, which accounted for 48 percent of electricity generation last year, including the construction of a 50 MW solar power plant. A preliminary presentation of the concept of Green Energy Zone was also held in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev once again stressed that Nakhchivan was declared a Green Energy Zone. It was noted that the concept aims to ensure energy independence and sustainable development by maximizing the region's renewable energy potential, creating a modern network infrastructure, expanding energy export opportunities and significantly reducing carbon emissions. Detailed information was provided on the main directions, targets, and planned measures of the Concept developed in accordance with Azerbaijan’s green energy policy, global trends, and the State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of Nakhchivan for 2023–2027.
Also, a presentation was made on the conceptual directions of energy export from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. During the discussions, the export potential of electricity from Nakhchivan on various routes to turn the region into a strategic energy hub was emphasized. At the end of the meeting, the next steps towards the development of the energy system of this economic region were determined and relevant instructions were given.
