Adecree issued on August 7, 2025, authorizes a 120 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) developed by BESS Sessa Aurunca S.r.l. The facility will be built on agricultural land in Sessa Aurunca, near Caserta, and will feature 392 battery containers and 49 power conversion systems (PCS). It will connect to the grid via a new substation.

In a separate decree on the same day, MASE approved a 280 MW battery system in Melfi, Potenza, known as Melfi BESS 2. The developer, Bess by Erry, will install 448 battery containers, 56 power conversion systems with related transformers and equipment, and nearly 1,800 HVAC units for climate control. Construction is set to begin within 12 months and is expected to take up to 30 months to complete.

Another decree on August 7 gives Energy Total Capital S.r.l. permission to build “BESS Bisaccia,” a 30 MW project in Bisaccia, Avellino. It will connect to the national grid through a new 380/36 kV substation. The project design includes 45 battery units, each with a 780 kW capacity, and nine 3,900 kW inverters.

On August 8, 2025, MASE authorized a new 100 MW battery project called “Campo Villano” in Tuscania, Viterbo. The project, led by Sphera Vaya S.r.l., will consist of 32 modular units, each containing eight battery modules.

A decree from August 11 clears the way for a 50 MW storage facility in Benevento, proposed by BESS Benevento S.r.l. The plant will use 168 battery containers and 21 power conversion systems to store and manage electricity, connecting to the national grid at Terna’s “Benevento 3” substation.

Finally, on August 11, MASE also authorized the “Andria Bess” project by Acltek SPV 2 S.r.l. This battery system, with a capacity of approximately 68 MW, will be located in Andria. The main components include 136 battery containers, 136 power conversion systems, and 17 transformers. The planned construction time is 30 months.
