Baku Engineering University (BEU) and "Turan Volts Energy," the Azerbaijan subsidiary of the United Arab Emirates' "Volts Energy" company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.

The signing ceremony was attended by BEU’s leadership, Murad Sadikhov, Country Manager of the United Arab Emirates' "Masdar" company and Director of "Masdar Azerbaijan" LLC, and Nadir Badalov, Country Manager of "Volts Energy" (UAE) and Director of "Turan Volts Energy."

The document signed by BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev and "Turan Volts Energy" Director Nadir Badalov envisages the establishment of extensive cooperation in professional personnel training and development, human capital, as well as renewable energy innovation. According to the agreement, "Turan Volts Energy" will support the project to establish a solar power plant on the university campus, and this plant will be used as both an educational and research facility for students studying in relevant specializations. Furthermore, lectures on various topics will be organized for students by the company's senior managers and invited foreign experts, and their industrial training will be ensured. At the same time, BEU graduates will be provided with employment opportunities at the company and its partner enterprises, and excursions to relevant sector enterprises will be organized for students.

Rector Yagub Piriyev stated that the memorandum is of great importance in terms of strengthening university-industry cooperation, as well as delivering modern knowledge and experience in the field of renewable energy to students. The Rector noted that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, renewable energy has become a national development priority and universities play an important role in this strategy. Yagub Piriyev also expressed gratitude to "Volts Energy" and "Turan Volts Energy," stating his confidence that this partnership will provide significant support to the development of BEU’s "green campus" concept.

Other speakers at the event highlighted the activities of "Masdar" and "Volts Energy" companies in Azerbaijan, and joint opportunities in education, training, and applied research in the field of clean energy were discussed.

"Volts Energy" operates within the framework of "Catalyst," a startup technology accelerator jointly created by Masdar City and BP, based in Abu Dhabi. This accelerator supports early-stage projects focused on sustainability that utilize technology to make the world more sustainable.

The BEU-"Turan Volts Energy" cooperation represents a practical step in the direction of promoting clean and renewable energy and aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (7-Affordable and clean energy; 9-Industry, innovation and infrastructure; 13-Climate action). This cooperation will combine academic knowledge with industry requirements and strengthen the innovation ecosystem in Azerbaijan.

At the end, the guests familiarized themselves with BEU’s laboratories and toured the area where the solar power plant will be established.
