Shahbazov has discussed energy projects with bp

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with bp`s regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Giovanni Cristofoli.

During the meeting, the implementation status of ongoing projects carried out within the framework of the strategic partnership with bp, as well as prospects for future cooperation in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors were discussed. In this context, efforts aimed at maintaining stable production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, the application of new technologies, and the enhancement of operational efficiency were reviewed.

At the same time, updates were provided on activities at the Shah Deniz field, the development of the Shah Deniz Compression project, and the achievement of first gas under the project for processing associated gas from ACG.  The issues related to the development of Shafag-Asiman, Garabagh and Babek fields were also discussed and prospective opportunities were assessed. It was noted that these projects will make a significant contribution to increasing the country’s gas export potential.

At the meeting, the progress on the electrification of oil and gas platforms and the Sangachal terminal, as well as ongoing work toward commissioning the Shafag Solar Power Plant in 2027 were also reviewed.

During the discussions, the priority of energy security amid the current situation in global energy markets was emphasized, along with the importance of diversifying energy sources, routes, and supply. It was highlighted that, alongside the rapid development of renewable energy, hydrocarbons still account for a dominant share in global energy consumption and will continue to play a significant role in the future. It was noted that Azerbaijan consistently continues its policy of diversification in the fields of oil, gas, electricity and renewable energy.

The parties highlighted the importance of continuing joint efforts to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen regional energy security, and further reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as an international energy hub.
