The first meeting of the Board of Directors of Clean Energy Centre for the ECO region (CECECO) was held online.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, thus, in November last year, the Clean Energy Centre (CECECO), established in Azerbaijan jointly with the ECO and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) within the framework of COP29, officially launched.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that the importance of starting the Clean Energy Centre is also emphasized in the final document of the 17th ECO Summit-Khankendi communiqué. The center will support the development of renewable energy projects and energy transition in the region by strengthening existing and potential energy partnerships between the organization and its member states. "We are currently cooperating with three ECO members - Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan-to create green energy corridors. The Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe and Central Asia-Azerbaijan green energy corridors are strategic initiatives aimed at developing regional energy relations and the regional electricity market. These projects will strengthen energy cooperation in the ECO region, connect regional energy networks and create a single strategic platform for reducing emissions,” the Minister added. It was noted that as a host country, Azerbaijan is committed to supporting the Center, believing that it will contribute to national, regional and ECO-scale goals for a fair energy transition.

Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization thanked Azerbaijan for hosting the Clean Energy Centre. The Secretary-General said that the efforts made to launch the Centre are evidence of Azerbaijan's determined and active role in advancing regional cooperation and the carbon emission reduction agenda. We are confident that the centre will become a powerful component of the global network of regional sustainable energy centers.

Member states of the organization - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Pakistan and UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) were represented at the meeting. It was emphasized that countries will actively participate and support the activities of the Centre for the implementation of the green energy agenda in line with global trends and in coordination.

During the meeting, the Internal Rules of the Centre were approved and Aysel Yagubova was appointed Executive Director of the Clean Energy Centre. The second meeting of the Board of Directors was decided to be held in the first half of 2026.
