Uzbekistan’s power system has recorded a new milestone in the share of renewable energy in electricity consumption, Uzbekistan’s Energy Ministry reports.

As of 11:00 a.m. on March 13, total electricity demand in the country reached 9,900 MW. Of this amount, 4,300 MW, or 43%, was supplied by renewable energy sources.

Solar power plants accounted for the largest share of renewable generation, producing 3,100 MW. Wind power contributed 660 MW, while hydropower plants generated 540 MW.

Currently, Uzbekistan has 15 large solar photovoltaic power plants in operation with a combined installed capacity of 3,930 MW.

According to sector officials, cool weather following rainfall and snowfall can significantly improve the efficiency of solar panels, with performance reaching up to about 79%.

Authorities note that the growing share of renewable energy reflects the results of ongoing reforms in the energy sector and contributes to improving the resilience of the national power system while reducing environmental impact.
