Green hydrogen could play a vital role in advancing Azerbaijan's renewable energy sector, Hong Soo Goh, Director of Grid Technologies at Sungrow, stated at the event titled "Green Energy Week 2025: Azerbaijan and Central Asia," held in Baku.
The director noted that Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries should focus on several key areas in the medium term-between 2028 and 2031: "These include the implementation of long-term energy storage systems, development of more projects, deployment of battery energy systems that offer sustained support, modernization of the grid, and investment in smart grid technologies. Market and grid operators in these countries can invest in smart grid applications. Additionally, they should consider upgrading electricity infrastructure to eliminate transmission bottlenecks. In the long run, green hydrogen, alongside solar energy, could become one of the core solutions for Azerbaijan and Central Asia's renewable energy future."
The company representative emphasized that regional countries must work closely together: "This collaboration can help balance energy markets and create a fully flexible system. Central Asian countries are well-positioned to lead in solar and energy storage innovations."
