A 20 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) is expected to be connected to the electricity grid in Nakhchivan in early 2027.
Renewables.az reports that Baba Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of AzerEnergy OJSC, announced this in an article published in Khalg Gazeti newspaper.
The article noted that battery energy storage systems are regarded not as technologies that replace conventional power generation capacity, but as solutions that complement existing energy infrastructure. Their effectiveness depends on grid conditions, control algorithms, energy storage capacity, and the level of integration with other energy sources.
In the future, greater importance will be placed on integrating battery storage systems with digital dispatch control, electricity demand forecasting, and operational management aligned with renewable energy generation patterns.
Such integration will enable more efficient electricity distribution, improved peak load management, and easier integration of new renewable energy capacity into the grid.
